‘My new number 10’ – Arsenal fans reading between the lines in star’s Twitter message

The Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern have been reading too far into Mesut Ozil’s goodbye message to Jack Wilshere. The pair have been teammates since Oil swapped The Bernabeu fro The Emirates back in 2013 and in those five years, Wilshere has worn the elusive number ten shirt that Ozil has donned for both Los Blancos and Die Mannschaft.

This season though, Ozil can finally get what he wants as the German lockpicking midfielder can take on the vacant number ten shirt as Jack Wilshere leaves the club on the expiry of his contract. The departure of Wilshere has hit some fans quite hard as the passionate central midfielder has always made his love for the club clear, with his departure this summer ending a 17-year stay at the club after he joined the club’s academy system as a nine-year-old.

The pathway is clear now for Ozil. The 29-year-old German World Cup winner will finally be able to take to the pitch in his favoured number ten shirt and he can continue to dazzle the fans in North London. The club will be pleased to see their German maestro in his favoured shirt, although it will bring back memories of Wilshere, who wore the shirt for six seasons after jumping on it following Robin Van Persie’s departure.

The fans will be keen to get over the loss of Wilshere by celebrating their German star’s new number shirt, and they all seem happy for Ozil to be picking it up.
