Metro have a seriously sensational claim for us today in the Football Transfer Tavern as they note that Real Madrid could well face competition for Gareth Bale.
As we saw with Tottenham’s attempt to sign Willian, until there is a signature on the dotted line, there are no guarantees in the transfer window.
It had been thought that a world shattering £86 million fee had been agreed for Bale and the famous Galcaticos podium had been constructed ahead of the player being officially unveiled on Tuesday.
Now it has sensationally been claimed that Bale could well have attracted interest from another club and one that is willing and able to match the world record fee that Real Madrid have offered for him.
As one of our punters points out, there are only a handful of clubs who could afford such a huge amount of money.
As we all know, Ligue 1 sides Monaco and Paris Saint-Germain could afford Bale, yet the player would not be too keen to make a move to France.
Manchester City and Chelsea also have pots of money to spend yet neither have been linked with the Welshman, and Chelsea would have a job to land him after the Willian saga!
Realistically the only other club in contention would be Manchester United and given they have already been heavily linked with Bale and have not brought anyone into the club this summer so far, it could well be a late coup for the club.
Are Manchester United the other mystery club linked with a late Bale bid? Let us know your thoughts below.
