The Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern remain frustrated by their side’s failure to hold on to a 2-1 lead against Tottenham Hotspur last Sunday.
Jurgen Klopp’s side could have taken a huge step towards securing their qualification for the Champions League this season by recording a victory over Spurs at Anfield last time out, and it looked like they would take that step when Mo Salah restored Liverpool’s lead in the 91st minute. However, Liverpool’s celebrations were short-lived as Harry Kane netted a 95th minute penalty to ensure the sides would share the spoils after a 2-2 draw.
Liverpool’s result served to intensify the undertones of frustration that currently exist amongst the supporters which have emerged as a consequence of their club’s failure to replace Philippe Coutinho during the January transfer window.
The Reds were heavily linked with plenty of players throughout January who were all tipped to fill the void left by Coutinho. One of those players was AS Monaco’s French international Thomas Lemar who rose to fame due to his scintillating performances in the Champions League during the 2016/17 season.
Although Liverpool did not manage to secure his signature in January, plenty of the Liverpool supporters still retain hope of bringing him to Anfield next summer.
And those optimistic supporters were given a boost yesterday as French media outlet L’Equipe (Via talkSPORT) claimed that Lemar has recently turned down an opportunity to extend his contract at Monaco.
A handful of the Liverpool fans were delighted by the update and retain hope of signing Lemar next summer, however, that view does not seem to be shared by the majority of supporters.
Plenty of supporters have urged Liverpool to shift their attention towards another Ligue 1 talent, namely Nabil Fekir, who is currently playing his trade at Lyon.
Whether Liverpool will manage to land either of the aforementioned talents remains to be seen, but it’s fair to say that Fekir is the supporters choice at this moment in time, although that could all chance after they have taken a closer look at the pairing during the World Cup.
Here’s what the Liverpool supporters on Twitter had to say in response to Lemar’s contract update on Twitter…
Good player, but I’d much rather we got Fekir. Better and would be considerably cheaper

He’s played 108 games and scored 17 goals, in the FRENCH league. Even ballotelli scores more, so how is he worth £50m? This season, 25 games, 4 goals and 4 assists, in the FRENCH league.

Agree with this totally. 90m is fam fairy tale price. Liverpool should never pay that and should walk away if necessary.
