Naby Keita’s £22.5m-rated teammate should follow him to Liverpool this summer

Liverpool fans in the Tavern have plenty to be excited for after beating Roma 5-2 in the semi-final of the Champions League so much so they have forgotten that one of the world’s best midfielders joins them in the summer!

Naby Keita will finally complete his move to Liverpool for around £56m when the window reopens, the transfer was announced last summer, but RB Leipzig were unwilling to allow their star midfielder to leave during their debut campaign in the Champions League.

The Reds have enjoyed plenty of success on the field without Keita, with the Champions League final within their reach and a top-four finish in the Premier League looking likely.

There is plenty of work to be done if Jurgen Klopp is to catch Manchester City next campaign, starting with new arrivals in the summer.

A centre-back should be a priority with Virgil Van Dijk lacking a quality partner at the heart of the defence. Dejan Lovren has improved immensely, but his constant mistakes are leading to goals which cannot be ignored.

One man Klopp should target is Keita’s Leipzig team-mate – Dayot Upamecano. Despite being just 19-years-old, the French defender has made over 80 appearances in his professional career and has developed into a crucial player for the German side.

Upamecano embodies a modern-day centre back; a commanding presence who is equally adept with the ball at his feet. He has won more tackles per game and made less defensive errors than all of Liverpool’s centre-backs this season according to Squawka.

He is valued at £22.5m by Transfermarkt, but RB Leipzig will not allow another prized asset to leave without a substantial transfer fee. He may be pricey, but Liverpool could secure their centre-back partnership for years to come.

Liverpool fans, what centre-back would you like to join the club this summer? Let us know!
