Napoli’s owner has alerted the Premier League’s top clubs by announcing that he is ‘waiting for the offers’ for his star trio of Ezequiel Lavezzi, Edinson Cavani and Marek Hamsik, according to the Mirror’s report.
The aforementioned Serie A trio are among the most sought after targets on the continent following their rise to stardom in Naples with many of Europe’s heavyweights being continually linked with potential bids throughout the season. But none of the reported speculation has come to fruition and the talented threesome dubbed the Three Tenors still remain with the Italian side.
For the first time however, Europe’s top clubs have been given an indicator by Napoli’s owner Aurelio De Laurentiis of what may be required to prise away one of his players.
“If they have the money to pay, I am waiting for the offers,” said the film impresario.
“There is never a real price. The price is what the clubs need and what is the hot moment of negotiation.
“They are all fantastic players. We have a lot of fantastic players. I don’t expect anything. Thanks to God, I don’t need the money from anyone. I am rich enough to survive.
“But if somebody wants to make an offer, we are here to listen. You never to close the door to anyone because we are polite.
“If someone wants to make an offer, they can make an offer. We can laugh off their offer if we are not satisfied or we can say: ‘Let’s sit down and discuss this’.
“In life, there is always a price for everything. It is just a question of the right moment and the right people.”
When De Laurentiis took over Napoli in 2004 they were bankrupt and played their football in Italy’s third tier, but since then the transformation has been remarkable. The Azzurri owner has seen his side take huge strides in both footballing and financial terms by competing in Europe’s top prize as well as keeping them in profit for the last five years.
“In my film business, I finance myself and I must keep my balance sheets in order. In football I apply the same technique.”
De Laurentiis is obviously not short of a bob or two and Napoli are not a club who need to sell so any potential suitors for his star men will have to make seriously big offers to grab the attention of the shrewd film producer. Manchester City and Chelsea have been heavily with Lavezzi, Cavani and Hamsik and are two of very few European clubs who are in a position to offer the huge sums of money De Laurentiis will be looking for.
