Our Tottenham fans here in the Transfer Tavern are expecting a few new faces to go alongside the move into the new stadium this summer, as they will be hoping to challenge closer for the Premier League next season.
The latest name to be linked with a move to North London is unsettled Ajax centre-back Matthijs de Ligt. The Dutch defender is in search of regular football to better enhance his development over the coming years, with his agent recently coming out to tell Ajax that he wants to leave this summer.
Our punters in the bar notice that there is a good line of communication from Spurs to Ajax following recent transfer movements over the previous years. Indeed, Pochettino will be looking to replace a former Ajax defender in Toby Alderweireld, with the player looking likely to move on a free after contract talks broke down this season.
Our landlord feels that following a handful of brilliant buys from Ajax, De Ligt will be another shrewd move, even though they may have to part with around £40m for the youngster.
With that in mind, another signing by the Argentine is a must and the barman feels that this player must follow De Ligt to the Lillywhites…
OUR VERDICT – Justin Kluivert
In a double swoop, Spurs should grab two of the most exciting players within Europe at the moment from Ajax, and in Kluivert, they have a player who is young and would be willing to learn from superstar striker Harry Kane.
What Spurs are missing is a quality back-up striker to Kane, and a young and hungry forward could be the perfect option for Pochettino. Kluivert would command a decent fee, however, the investment could pay off dividends in the years to come.
