The Newcastle fans in the Transfer Tavern are concerned about the state of their club for more reasons than one at the moment.
Newcastle United’s season has been overshadowed by events taking place away from the field so far. Mike Ashley announced that he had put the club up for sale back in October, and since then the media has been rife with speculation regarding Amanda Staveley’s potential takeover. As of yet, no official announcement has been made to confirm the British businesswoman’s takeover, much to the frustration of the Toon Army propping up the bar in the tavern.
However, more news emerged yesterday concerning the clubs issues away from the field, as Peter Beardsley was accused of racism and bullying by players within Newcastle’s U23 squad.
Newcastle’s official Twitter page confirmed that he will take a period of leave whilst the club conduct the necessary investigations into the allegations made against him.
After discussions with Peter Beardsley this morning it has been agreed that he will take a period of leave, to commence immediately, whilst the club conducts its investigation into allegations made against him.

Beardsley has been in the Newcastle set up for almost twenty years and he has undertaken roles as assistant coach of the first team, technique coach of the U18 squad, and most recently as coach of the U23 side.
The reaction of the Newcastle supporters on Twitter has been one of shock and disbelief and plenty of the supporters are struggling to believe the allegations being made.
And a handful of The Magpies faithful were keen to point out that Beardsley’s departure may be beneficial to their club’s youth set-up, regardless of whether the allegations are true or not.
Here’s what the supporters had to say about the Beardsley news…
Get rid, promising youth coming through is non existent

Need to be sacked

Not good news. Nobody under investigation ‘agrees’ to a period of leave – it’s called suspension. Hope it’s not true – as a true #NUFC legend’s name will be dragged through the dirt

I wish Ashley would take a permanent absence of leave

If he is found guilty of these vile allegations he needs to be sacked. There is no place for racism in football or any place else.

Is there ever going to be any good news coming from NUFC, other than Benitez joining and you wonder why we cherish that, only good news in years.
