The Manchester United fans in the Transfer Tavern are delighted to see that they’ve signed Porto’s 19-year-old full-back Diogo Dalot. The youngster will be thrown into the first team alongside Antonio Valencia on the right of Jose Mourinho’s defence next season, although it’s unlikely that he’ll set the world alight at such a young age just yet.
United have a long history of success and the last long-term right-back at the club was Gary Neville, one of United’s most successful players and most adored captains. Neville was a true one-club man having played for the Red Devils for his whole career, helping Sir Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United conquer both domestic and European football, something that looks a long way away for the current United squad.
Indeed, while Antonio Valencia has impressed at times, it’s fair to say that United never really replaced Neville in terms of having a long-term heir to his right-back throne.
Despite that, Dalot will be keen to make his mark in Manchester as soon as he can and at such a young age, having a mentor like Jose Mourinho will be invaluable to his progress. The youngster is yet to win a cap for Portugal’s senior squad, although he’s picked up four caps for A Seleção das Quinas U21 side. The defender makes his Old Trafford switch having played just six league games for Porto last season, although he did manage to set up two goals in those games and his attacking ability from right-back is what has tempted Mourinho to chase his signature.

Dalot, a fullback/RB that can actually cross, that plays for MUFC. never see that since Gary neville

I don’t know dalot about #mufc new signing If he is double the player of Darmian’s class I’m optimistic. If he can go past a player and actually cross the ball then it is superb! He played well against Liverpool at Anfield in march. Only game I’ve seen him in.
