The Aston Villa fans who are gathered at the bar in The Transfer Tavern this evening are discussing reports that the club’s new owners have a top manager in mind.
The Express & Star is reporting that the club’s new owners want Roberto Di Matteo at the helm next season in a bid to lead the club back to England’s top flight at the first attempt.
The takeover of the club was completed yesterday subject to FA clearance and new owner Tony Xia has earmarked the Champions League winning coach as his top target to replace Remi Garde.
Di Matteo began his managerial career with West Bromwich Albion before moving to Chelsea where he led the side to a Champions League title, before being replaced the following season, he followed that with a short spell in the Bundesliga with Schalke but was relieved of his duties 12 months ago.
Our landlord in The Tavern believes the experience that Di Matteo would bring to the club will be vital as they look to bounce back to the Premier League at the first attempt.
As for the Aston Villa fans although Di Matteo is not their first choice replacement for Garde there is no disputing that he is a born winner and having that type of mentality in the dressing room can only help the club as they look to forget the torrid time they have had this season.
Would Di Matteo take this job? Let us know in the comments below!
