Manchester United fans are eagerly crowding round the bar here in the Football Transfer Tavern to hear what the Daily Express has to say.
The publication have claimed that David De Gea is set to be offered a new deal by Manchester United to reward his form this season and secure his future at the club.
As one of our punters pointed out, De Gea was probably the man of the match against Olympiakos, and that is saying something considering Robin van Persie managed to show up and net a hat-trick.
De Gea started his career at Old Trafford rather slowly, and made a fair few mistakes leading to fans questioning if he was more Roy Carroll than the next long-term number one, yet the Spaniard has grown into his role admirably.
Under David Moyes, De Gea is one of the few players who has actually maintained a consistent run of form and actually put in some decent performances.
Now it seems he will be rewarded for that with a new deal on the table with manager Moyes claiming: “The club are always going to keep their best players.
“The club will always look to keep the players who they feel they need to.”
Our landlord notes that the deal will see the player through past his current deal which expires in two years. One of our punters notes that with Barcelona circling, that is probably a good idea!
Do you think De Gea should commit his future to a club on the decline? Let us know your thoughts below.
