New Everton regime set for first capture?

alcaraz.jpgEverton fans are looking up with interest here in the Football Transfer Tavern as it is claimed by the Liverpool Echo that the club are set to bring one of Roberto Martinez’ former players in.

Antolin Alcaraz is the man Martinez wants to make his first signing for the club and is prepared to serve his former club Wigan Athletic a blow in order to do it. Everton are in much need of a defender and one who is strong and commanding like Alcaraz provides too good of an opportunity for Martinez to turn down.

The 30-year-old Paraguay international has been in the Premier League for three years now after joining from Club Brugge and is set to be the one that will anchor the defence for a side Martinez fully believes he can get into the Champions League.

In order to raise both transfer funds and also free up a squad place, the expected arrival of Alcaraz will see Johnny Heitinga finally make his long rumoured move away from Goodison Park to Turkish side Fenerbahce. Everton are also facing the future without Phil Neville and Martinez is determined to bring in at least a couple more players before the season starts.

Is Antolin Alcaraz a good enough signing for Everton? Happy Toffees fans? Let us know your thoughts below.
