Wigan’s 24-year-old striker Hugo Rodallega looks unlikely to be plying his trade at the DW Stadium next season. At the risk of upsetting Wigan fans, the bright lights of Aston Villa or maybe even Arsenal now beckon for the Columbian international following nearly two years of using the Latics as a means of establishing himself in the Premiership.
Rodallega scored 10 goals in the top flight last season drawing the attention of Martin O’Neill amongst others. Wigan Chairman Dave Whelan has said the he will not prevent the forward from developing his career but has insisted on a not-to-be-sniffed-at £15m price tag.
His mostly likely destination seems to be the West Midlands where Villa are desperate for a striker due to the futures of John Carew and Emile Heskey remaining uncertain and Birmingham beating the club to the signature of Serbian striker Nicola Zigic.
Arsene Wenger is known to be seeking greater firepower at the Emirates but interest from the Gunners is only stated by Rodallega himself and could just be wishful thinking on his part.
Either way, Roberto Martinez is probably wise looking around for a replacement.
