There is major drama here in the Football Transfer Tavern as it is claimed by Caught Offside that Gareth Bale is set to sign a new Tottenham deal worth a massive £130,000 per week.
The forward this week claimed that he would be happy to stay at the North London club despite the risk of missing out on the Champions League and is also willing to hold off on a dream move to Real Madrid, confident that when the time is right, Los Blancos will come calling for him.
Now it is claimed that a new deal worth a huge amount in terms of wages and endorsement deals and will see the player commit to Spurs until 2018 on a five-year deal. One thing that has to be considered is that signing a new deal is beneficial for all parties – Bale effectively doubles his current wages and deservedly so and Spurs add that extra bit of protection for themselves.
It seems inevitable that eventually Real Madrid will land their man, but that could well wait a season or two until it is decided where Cristiano Ronaldo sees his future and added to that just how far Spurs can progress under Andre Villas-Boas. Either way, for Bale who has just become the first player since Ronaldo to win the PFA Player of the Year and Young Player of the Year not to mention the Football Writers Award, it is a brilliant end to the season for him personally.
