After a somewhat frustrating summer, Newcastle suffered a tough 2-1 opening day loss to Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.
Rafa Benitez’s men managed to level it up with Spurs three minutes after Jan Vertonghen opened the scoring but ultimately couldn’t break down Tottenham.
In fairness, for a club that had a poor transfer window, the Magpies had a decent first game of the season.
The club failed to bring in a left-back to replace Paul Dummett or a number 10, which could prove to be crucial in how they fair this season.
Up front, Mike Ashley signed Yoshinori Muto and West Brom forward, Salomon Rondon to replace the void left by Aleksandar Mitrovic.
If West Brom are going to progress this season, Rondon must be the first-choice striker ahead of Joselu, albeit the Spaniard scored at the weekend.
While Joselu opened his account for the season, the Spaniard’s finishing for the club has never been great.
Last season Joselu managed to score four goals in 30 appearances for the club in the league, the season before he managed five in 20 appearances for La Liga side, Deportivo La Coruna.
While Rondon’s goalscoring record hasn’t been outstanding either, his ability to hold the ball up and his energy off the ball are much better than Joselu’s.
His work rate and physicality as the lone man up front is going to be crucial in Benitez’s 4-2-3-1 and he should therefore be playing in this weekend’s game against Cardiff.
So Newcastle fans, do you think Salomon Rondon should start at the weekend?
