Southampton fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are desperate for the new season to get underway after appointing Claude Puel as their new manager.
According to L’Equipe via Sports Witness, Saints were in advanced talks to sign Ferencvároson’s Adam Nagy, but since the arrival of Puel, he has asked Southampton to put the talks on hold with the Hungarian club.
The South Coast club had already signed Nathan Redmond from Norwich, before the appointment of Claude Puel, but now the Frenchman is through the door, he is looking to assess his squad before making any of his own additions.
It has been reported that the former Monaco boss has made it his priority to asses quality and depth of his squad before making any transfers. Therefore this delay is not down to the new boss not being keen on the young Hungarian midfielder.
Our astute Landlord pointed out that as a one club man as a player, Puel has a passion for youth and Southampton have brought through plenty of young players from their famous academy and he may prefer to develop a player as opposed to signing Nagy.
Southampton fans, what do you think? Do you like this approach from Claude Puel? Let us know your thoughts below…
