There are mixed reactions from Newcastle United fans in the Football Transfer Tavern after the Daily Mail revealed that Alan Pardew has admitted he would welcome Andy Carroll back to St. James’ Park.
Pardew has recently claimed that he wants to see the striker return to his former club but for now, the giant forward is expected to line up against the Magpies for the Hammers at Upton Park tomorrow afternoon.
He has just recovered from his ankle injury and this has fuelled speculation that Pardew will be chasing him in January.
Punters in the tavern were shocked to hear that it is approaching four years since Carroll made his remarkable £35 million move to Liverpool and they admit it is a shame that he never truly fulfilled his potential.
His career has been riddled with injuries and his most recent set back devastatingly ruled him out of Word Cup contention.
And now that he is back, Pardew confessed that a move could happen and he is not holding back in his desire to bring him back to the Magpies.
“I think he would (want to come back one day), and I hope he does come back to his hometown,’ said the United boss.
“He has got that love here. I really enjoyed working with Andy. I think he’s a terrific player. I know we get linked with him every two weeks, which is always probably going to happen whether it’s me or another manager.
“So I’m not going to hide from the fact that I like him. I’m not sure that it’s something that’s imminent for us in this window, because he looks fairly happy to me at West Ham.
“I think it’s difficult to take players who are happy out of Premier League teams. It’s financially difficult.”
