Newcastle fans in the Football Transfer Tavern have all but come to terms with the fact that Demba Ba is likely to leave in the January transfer window and have already been speculating about who Alan Pardew will bring in to replace him.
As they all gather around the Christmas tree, John Cross from Mirror Football claims that Marseille striker Loic Remy will sign for Newcastle in a £10 million deal as a replacement for Ba.
Cross reports that the 25-year-old will move to Tyneside in January after the French side decided to cash in on the forward rather than letting his contract run down.
The possible signing would be something of a coup for Pardew with Remy apparently interesting QPR, West Ham, Chelsea and Tottenham although his form in France has been disappointing of late.
The French international was valued at £20 million when Spurs made an enquiry about his services in the summer but it now appears that Newcastle will pick him up for half that price.
Ba is set to leave when the window opens in January with his £7 million buy out clause understood to be attracting attention from both Liverpool and Arsenal.
