Newcastle and Brighton amongst clubs chasing experienced Premier League defender

Stoke City fans here in the Tavern have been left reeling today after news emerged suggesting captain Ryan Shawcross could be set for a move away from the Britannia this summer.

The one-time England international has just one year left on his current contract and despite Mark Hughes keen on offering him a new deal to extend his stay at the Britannia, Shawcross could be tempted by a move to Newcastle, Leicester or Brighton, who, according to the Daily Mail, want to sign him this summer.

He’s been at Stoke for over nine years having made the move from Manchester United back in 2008 and has become a firm favourite amongst fans here in the Tavern, who like his no-nonsense attitude and willingness to get stuck in.

And despite featuring in the team week-in, week-out, could a move to ambitious Newcastle United tempt the 29-year-old?

Newcastle fans here in the Tavern seem very keen on bringing Shawcross in to lead their much-expected Premier League campaign next season but with Stoke supporters not happy with the interest, what’s next in the transfer chase?
