Newcastle and Tottenham fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are encouraged by reports emerging from the Daily Mirror which suggest QPR are willing to drop their asking price for Charlie Austin.
The 26-year-old has been linked with both clubs for much of the summer, but has so far been priced out of a return to the Premier League, with Rangers demanding £15million for his services.
However now it appears the Championship new boys would be willing to lower the asking price to £13million, only if the fee is paid all up front.
Newcastle were told the news when they made an enquiry for the English striker last week, however reports suggest the Magpies still see the fee as too high.
Steve McClaren is still keen to add another striker to his ranks this summer, but with Newcastle still unsure of Austin’s price, the door could be left open for Tottenham, with Mauricio Pochettino desperate to add serious competition for Harry Kane.
A group of QPR fans huddled together here in the Tavern feel this move away is simply inevitable now, and are desperate to see this ongoing transfer saga finally come to an end!
