Some of the Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern are already on their way to Kiev with our punters taking planes, cars and trains to reach Ukraine.
After knocking out Porto, Manchester City and Roma, the Reds will face Real Madrid in the Champions League final looking to secure their sixth European cup. With European football guaranteed again next season after a top four finish, Jurgen Klopp can begin to strengthen his squad when he returns to Merseyside.
A host of names have been linked with a move to Anfield and it is believed Klopp is searching for a new centre-back partner for Virgil van Dijk. Dejan Lovren has improved but is still inconsistent while Joel Matip has struggled for fitness. If Liverpool are to challenge for the title, they need a new defender.
The man for the job could be Newcastle captain – Jamaal Lascelles – who has enjoyed a stellar campaign with the Magpies. The 24-year-old has made 33 Premier League appearances helping Newcastle avoid relegation and finish 10th in the Premier League. Under Rafael Benitez, the former Nottingham Forest man has improved massively.
Lascelles is a natural leader – hence why he was made captain by Benitez – something which Liverpool sorely lack. He is strong in the air, a problem for the Reds over recent years, and is valued at just £6.3m by Transfermarkt. Tied to St. James Park until 2023, the Englishman wouldn’t come cheap. But with owner Mike Ashley desperately looking to sell the club, a huge offer could tempt him into selling.
If he joined the club, Liverpool would have a centre-back partnership for years to come.
