Newcastle fans in the Football Transfer Tavern finally had a permanent signing to celebrate last week, and sources at the Daily Mail reckons there could be a second on the way shortly, with the club close to agreeing the free transfer of striker Bafetimbi Gomis.
The France international forward has been on the Toon’s radar for the past 12 months, and it appears as though only the small details need to be ironed out before the deal is announced.
Owner Mike Ashley and managing director Lee Charnley have been in negotiations with Gomis’ representatives, with the 28-year-old thought to be looking for wages of around £100,000 a week.
Turkish giants Galatasary have also expressed an interest in the powerful striker, but Newcastle are confident he wants to play in the Premier League, after allowing his contract at Ligue 1 giants Lyon to expire.
Whilst one French star could be on his way in at Newcastle, another could be on his way out, with Marseille preparing an offer for centre back Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa.
The defender has struggled to settle on Tyneside following his £7.5million signing from Montpellier, and is keen to secure a return to French football.
