Newcastle closing in on Marlon Santos loan

Newcastle United appear to be on the verge of completing a deadline day deal this summer as Rafa Benitez looks to improve his squad.

The Spaniard is keen to make his team as strong as possible for the upcoming Premier League campaign and he could be about to push a loan move through.

According to Sport, Barcelona’s Marlon Santos is on the verge of completing a temporary move to Newcastle.

It is understood that the Magpies will pay around €2million for the loan to take place, although it is believed that there will not be a clause in the deal regarding a purchase at the end of the season.

The report also claims that a deal is not yet completed as the Brazilian is still trying to obtain a work permit that will allow him to be registered and play in the Premier League.

The Verdict:

Newcastle have been active in the transfer window this summer rebuilding their defensive options, however, Marlon will be a welcomed addition.

The 22-year-old enjoyed an impressive loan spell with Nice last season in Ligue One and is thought to have attracted plenty of interest.

However, with the requirement of a work permit and the lateness of a possible deal, this looks like one that could go right down to the 5pm deadline.
