Newcastle United are still searching for their first win in the current campaign after a torrid start to proceedings under Rafa Benitez.
The Magpies would have set their sights on a top half finish prior to the start of the season, but things just haven’t gone to plan so far. And, it looks as if their poor start could take its toll on a key figure at St James’ Park, as according to the Mirror, Brendan Rodgers is being considered as a potential replacement for Rafa Benitez.
Newcastle are considering a move for Brendan Rodgers if Rafa Benitez can’t halt their slide.
Fears are growing behind the scenes at St James’s Park following Newcastle’s winless start to the season, and Celtic boss Rodgers is set to be one name in the frame if Benitez can’t inspire a turnaround.
Interestingly, it is their next three games against Brighton, Southampton and Watford, that are now understood to be pivotal for Benitez and a better indicator of Newcastle’s prospects.
Rafa Benitez has definitely improved Newcastle United since he joined the club as he took them into the Premier League a few years back, and has tried to develop them since then under minimal backing.
Indeed, it remains to be seen as to whether the Magpies will actually look to get rid of the Spaniard, but they could secure themselves a decorated and established manager in the form of Brendan Rodgers, who has secured a countless amount of trophies during his time in Scotland.
