The Newcastle fans in the Transfer Tavern are already preparing for life back in the Premier League next season…
After all, the Magpies have done well so far this season – with manager Rafael Benitez impressing at the helm. Indeed, promotion was always the primary goal for the side, given the quality of their squad, but the Spaniard has done well to back up his targets for the season with results.
Indeed, thoughts at St James’ Park are likely already beginning to look towards next season – with the goal for the 2017/18 campaign likely to focus on staying in the Premier League.
It appears as though preparations for this target are already being made, too, with the Daily Star noting that Newcastle have identified Luke Shaw as a potential summer target.
Crucially, however, the outlet report that a move will only be made on the condition that the club do secure promotion – so Benitez must make sure that his focus remains firmly on achieving his goals this season.
Shaw would, of course, be a huge signing for the Magpies should it happen. It hasn’t quite worked out at Old Trafford since moving to Manchester United, but the quality that he has is clear to see. Given that he is just 21-years-old, our landlord thinks that Benitez could be the man to turn his form around and help him reach his potential – given all of the experience that the Spaniard has amassed over the years.
Newcastle fans – thoughts?
