The Newcastle United fans in the Transfer Tavern are starting to get nervous about their promotion hopes.
After clinching automatic promotion looked like plain sailing just three matches ago, a recent poor run of form has seen them surrender their place at the top of the league.
Brighton leapfrogged them to sit atop of the Championship table and the Seagulls have already booked their place in the Premier League for next season.
Newcastle, however, are floundering after picking up just one point in three games and there is a definite sense of nervousness noticeable in the Newcastle fans’ booth.
However, a win against Preston on Monday and they should be fine – it’ll then be time to start looking at transfer targets.
And in fact, they already have!
Newcastle have taken Everton starlet Josef Yarney on trial, according to The Chronicle.
The 19-year-old came on as a second half substitute in Newcastle under 23’s 2-0 win over Middlesbrough’s youth team at The Riverside yesterday.
Yarney is out of contract at the end of the season and looks set to depart Everton without ever featuring for their first team, although the centre half did play 90 minutes in all three of the under 23’s Checkatrade Trophy matches this season.
