Our Newcastle fans here in the Transfer Tavern are hoping for a double celebration come the end of this season.
Indeed, whilst they’re hoping first and foremost that they go up this season from the Championship, they’d also like Sunderland to replace them.
The rivalry between the two, of course, doesn’t need any introduction and whilst they’d also like to play one another next season, being in the division above certainly gives you the added bragging rights.
Certainly, one man who knows all about that rivalry is Steven Taylor with the defender Newcastle through and through.
He hates Sunderland, then, and he’s certainly reminded us all just how much recently.
Speaking to The Daily Mail in their regular EFL Q&A he answered a huge variety of questions but the ones that invoked the most impassioned response involved the Black Cats.
Indeed, when asked what his least favourite away ground was he said:
“Sunderland. It’s a horrible place. People know the situation between me and Sunderland. They don’t like me, I don’t like them. It’s unfortunate but that’s how it is. It’s always going to be like that. I’m never going to change my opinion on them, but I will look forward to it if I get the chance to play against Sunderland again.”
No mincing of words from Taylor, then, with him now at Ipswich Town and surely hoping to play them next season.
