Newcastle United fans in the Transfer Tavern will be looking for the club to build upon last season’s success and will be pleased they have already made some activity in the transfer market.
Rafa Benitez is expected to try and make a number of signings this summer as he looks to strengthen his team, and it appears he is close to generating some extra funds to spend from transfer sales.
According to a report by Dutch media outlet Voetbalkrant, Anderlecht are close to completing deals for both Matz Sels and Chancel Mbemba – a pairing who cost Newcastle a combined total of £14.5 million.
The report claims that both players have agreed terms with the Belgian giants, although terms are yet to be agreed between the two clubs regarding a potential double transfer.
Both players have failed to make an impact during their time with the Magpies as the pair have struggled to break into the first-team under Benitez, and it appears they are now both on the brink of a permanent departure.
The Newcastle fans in the Tavern will be delighted that they are close to offloading a pair whom they believe are surplus to requirements in the North East.
It is not believed the Magpies will manage to recoup the £14.5M they spent on them, however, the extra money should hand Benitez a welcome boost in his bid to strengthen the squad with a handful of new additions this summer.
