Newcastle eye move for in-demand defensive stalwart

The Newcastle fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are liking the look of this…

Newcastle are riding high in the Championship – and the Magpies in the Football Transfer Tavern are absolutely delighted.

They currently sit atop the table, and look likely to return to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

However, despite their success, it does not look like Rafa Benitez is resting on his laurels – and it would appear that he is looking to reinvigorate his side in January next year.

According to Chronicle Live, Newcastle United are eyeing a move for Genk defender Wilfred Ndidi.

The centre-half, rated at £8m, would serve as additional defensive depth in the heart of the Magpies defence.

Any deal will be no easy feat, though, as it would appear that the Ghanaian is in-demand. Chronicle Live are reporting that the likes of Hamburg, Watford and Tottenham have all shown interest in him over the last few months.

Ndidi has made 4 Europa League performances so far this season, and has looked very impressive. Whoscored.com have placed his average rating at 8.22 – which is a number that is really impressing the Newcastle fans in the Football Transfer Tavern.

Our landlord thinks that he would be a stellar signing as Newcastle look to consolidate their place at the top of the table.
