Newcastle eye move for Italian defender

Andrea RanocchiaNewcastle United fans gathered around the bar in The Transfer Tavern are delighted with news that the club are looking to make a move for a new defender.

The Express is reporting that Steve McClaren is considering a move for Inter Milan defender  Andrea Ranocchia.

Newcastle have struggled defensively this season, and see Ranocchia as a replacement for Fabricio Coloccini who has struggled for form since signing a new contract with the club, and McClaren is believed to be losing patience with the Argentinian.

It is reported that Ranocchia is looking for a move away from Inter after failing to hold down a place in the starting eleven, since the club brought Gary Medel in from Cardiff City last season, and has been restricted to just five substitute appearances so far this season.

Ranocchia was attracting plenty of from the Premier League during the summer with the likes of Everton, Crystal Palace and Tottenham interested in the but any move failed to materialise.

Ranocchia will no doubt add some pace and power at the back for Newcastle, and with McClaren looking for options at the back he will no doubt fit in well at St James Park.

The Newcastle fans in The Transfer Tavern are optimistic a deal can be done when the transfer window opens in January.
