The Newcastle fans in the Transfer Tavern have all bee saying the same thing today after reading a story in The Stoke Sentinel that claims The Potters are looking at Dwight Gayle as part of a major squad overhaul to help them regain promotion to the Premier League. Whilst the Magpies are prepared to part with Gayle, they’ve all been calling for Xherdan Shaqiri to go the other way.

Paul Lambert’s Stoke saw the end of their ten-year stay in the Premier League on Saturday as they were beaten 2-1 at home by Crystal Palace. The Potters Premier League exit means they’ll be looking to axe a number of their highly paid, ageing players and bringing in proven Championship stars to improve their chances of returning back to England’s top flight at the first time of asking. Gayle could just be one of a number of hungry Championship quality players that the club go after as they target a swift return to the Premier League.
The club will be looking to bring in a decent goalscorer after Peter Crouch, Saido Berhaino and Mame Diouf failed to impress in the Premier League this season. If the club can secure the services of Gayle, they’ll be well equipped for promotion as the striker bagged 23 goals in his last season in the Championship. However, Gayle could come at a heavy cost as the Geordies want to see Stoke’s star man Shaqiri going in the other direction. The Swiss international will have no end of suitors, whilst his CV speaks for itself, the winger was part of a treble-winning side with Bayern Munich and he scored the goal of the tournament at EURO 2016.

I'd be happy with a swap deal for Shaqiri

PL money + teams seeking our players = NO excuse to not bringing in 3 or 4 topflight players.
