Newcastle have really struggled in this early part of the season, taking just two points from their first six games.
As a result, the Magpies currently find themselves in 18th place, though manager Rafael Benitez will be quick to remind critics that the club have had to play Tottenham, Chelsea, Manchester City and Arsenal all in quick succession.
Nevertheless, it has still been a poor start to the campaign, and Newcastle supporters are now questioning the club’s decision to sell Aleksandar Mitrovic to Fulham.
Mitrovic has been brilliant for the west London side so far, scoring five goals in six Premier League appearances and, as alluded to by the Newcastle faithful, the decision to get rid of him now looks to be a terrible one.
With the Serbian, alongside Dwight Gayle, having left St. James’ Park in the summer, Benitez brought in Salomon Rondon and Yoshinori Muto to bolster his strikeforce.
However, neither of the two have been able to make much of an impact and, with Mitrovic’s exploits in front of goal showing no signs of slowing down, Benitez’s decision to axe the pair and bring in Rondon and Muto, will only continue to be scrutinised.
There is still time for both Rondon and Muto to make their marks at St. James’ Park; the two are still clearly adapting to the new environment they are in, in contrast to Mitrovic who spent last season with Fulham on loan.
But as he continues to fire while the duo of Rondon and Muto do not, the frustration of Newcastle supporters will not go away, frustration that is completely warranted.Like what the TT have on offer? Sign up for more notifications!
