Newcastle United earned their first win of the Premier League season over the weekend after they beat Watford 1-0 at St. James’ Park.
And being the match-winner, naturally, Ayoze Perez came in for praise at full time as the Magpies climbed out of the relegation zone.
As well as the Spaniard, goalkeeper Martin Dubravka also took much acclaim from Newcastle’s recent victory with Transfer Tavern spotting a host of supporters on Twitter talking up the 29-year-old.
Dubravka initially joined Newcastle on loan back in January in what looked like another Mike Ashley low-ball deal. However, that has been far from the case, and the Slovakian has since made his temporary spell a permanent one having done enough to convince manager Rafael Benitez of his quality.
At the £4m Newcastle paid Sparta Prague for him (via Sky Sports), he looks to be an absolute bargain. And following the confirmation of his permanent transfer, Benitez told the club’s official website (via ESPN): “Ever since he arrived with us on loan he has shown a fantastic attitude and great work ethic, and of course we have been very impressed with his performances for us on the pitch last season.
“This was one of the key positions we had identified we needed to strengthen and had been concerned about, so it is excellent news that we are able now to sign him on a permanent basis.”
All in all, Dubravka has been one of the shrewder signings Newcastle have made in recent seasons. As far as form goes, it is hard to look past the former Sparta Prague man being one of the leading goalkeepers in the Premier League.
