Newcastle’s winless start to the season continued on Saturday, despite coming agonisingly close to beating Man United at Old Trafford.
The loss to José Mourinho’s men saw The Magpies remain towards the bottom end of the table, level on points with bottom placed Cardiff.
In reaction to the club’s loss, Newcastle fans took to Twitter to discuss their club’s current state. One of our regular punters trawled through Twitter to see what fans thought, and it appears that they are beginning to fear relegation for the second time in four seasons.
However, while Rafa Benítez’s men have not endured the greatest start to their season, fans should not become too disheartened, particularly with a very encouraging run of fixtures ahead of them.
Not until Boxing Day this year do Newcastle play a side that are placed higher than sixth, in Bournemouth, including the four sides that are immediately ahead of them. Benítez has surely targeted this as the period whereby he will pick up a lot of points and get his season on track.
This is in stark contrast to The Magpies start to the season, which has already seen them face four of the top five teams in the league, a tough start to a campaign by any team’s standards.
Therefore, this is not the time to start worrying for Newcastle fans, however, if they are still in the same position at Christmas, it may be much bleaker for them.
While the performances of the team may not improve that much, the fixture list certainly does over the coming weeks.
