Newcastle United are entering into the second half of the season and they could use all the help they can get. One man that would really help them would be Borussia Dortmund’s out-of-favour striker, Maximilian Phillip. The German has been linked with a loan move by The Chronicle, although the Magpies have little faith in it coming off.

We’re at the point with Newcastle where it seems it doesn’t matter who they’re linked with, every transfer rumour is a write-off. That has only come about because of the way that the club has been neglected financially by Mike Ashley. That is probably why this one is being touted as a loan-move, even though it could be a permanent one for just £19 million, although the Geordies would never pay that.
At the moment the Geordies have got just Joselu and Salomon Rondon as their two strikers, so to say they’re a bit short at the top end of the pitch is an understatement. Rondon has proven to be worth his salt for the club, but Joselu is not exactly the most prolific frontman in the Premier League, so if Phillip was brought on-board, he would be a welcome addition as he looks to return to his best after his recent injury woes.
You can read the Magpies’ thoughts on the Phillip rumour here:
He‘s struggling to get into a very good Dortmund side, but he‘s actually a very decent footballer. And that‘s why the rumours probably are rubbish.

Needs games, injury hit year, struggling to score.
Ticks all the #nufc boxes.

Not a bloody hope is he coming. Actually a good player.

Love attempting to loan team's rejects. That sweet sweet ambition.

We can get all the strikers we want, that’s not the issue. There’s no one to create chances for them!

Won’t get him over the line …

Does it really matter that he’s available, #nufc won’t buy anyone

Lee , you really need to stop treating us like children and stop these stupid stories about the club being "linked" with players. You would get more respect if your headlines are NUFC are buying nobody. These baseless stories are doing you and the chronicle no favours whatsoever.

The Geordies have no faith in signing anyone, and would be happy with a 17th placed finish this season as they continue to suffer through the January transfer window.
