St James Park is always buzzing during the Premier League season and the superb fans deserve a lot more than what they get in the transfer market. At the moment the club is being restricted to loans and frees as Mike Ashley continues to starve the club of money. However, according to Calcio Mercato, The Magpies could be set to sign Mexico star and free agent, Diego Reyes.

The 26-year-old defender has plenty of years left in him at the top of his game and considering he’s currently a free agent having left Porto this summer at the expiry of his contract, it would be a great move for Newcastle to sign him up. The 55-cap star was unlucky not to play in the World Cup this year as he missed out through injury, however, if he signs for the Magpies there’s no doubt he’ll play his way back into the national team when he returns to fitness.
Newcastle need to sign a centre-back this summer after the deal to sell Chancel Mbemba to Porto was completed last night. It looks like the Geordies will also be selling Aleksandar Mitrovic this summer and if they do complete the rumoured £20 million deal for the Serbian then the club will really need to start investing in players. The transfer window closes on 9th August and with time running out, the club needs to act fast to get the right men in, with Reyes high up on their list of priorities.

No Schar then? But if they can get the BC lad over the line then that would be amazing business . Two quality defenders for one outgoing who never quite made it. Like Joe a lot he could be the type of dynamic attacking fullback to play 3 centre halves and two wingbacks

I think Schar is more likely based on what I’ve read but Reyes is £3.5m cheaper than Schar

Whilst some Newcastle fans are sceptical over any potential incomings, most of the supporters are in agreement that Reyes would be a great addition to the squad.
