Newcastle fans on Twitter most likely won’t have heard of Miha Zajc, however, Gazzetta dello Sport claims that the Magpies are set to do battle with the Terriers over the signing of the Empoli midfielder. That, though, will mean little to the Geordies as they’ll already be looking on to to the next target as they have little faith in beating anyone to a transfer.
Miha Zajc has proposals from both #NUFC and Huddersfield Town. The 24 year old currently plays for Empoli. Zajc is a right footed attacking midfielder and has made 18 Serie A appearances so far this season with 2 goals & 3 assists. No quote on price. [Gazzetta dello Sport]

The young Slovenian international is regarded as one of the best players at Empoli, and so far no price tag has been quoted for his sale. However, with the midfielder scoring twice and assisting three more from his midfield role in an Empoli side that has scored just 22 goals in 19 games it’s unlikely that the Italian club will let him go on the cheap considering he’s one of their finest players.
Even so, the interest from Huddersfield and Newcastle is there and as far as the Magpies are concerned, if there’s another club interested in the player then they stand no chance of signing them. There were plenty of rumours linking them with Miguel Almiron, but now that seems to be dead, it looks like Rafa Benitez has been left to look at some budget options elsewhere, but even this one looks like Huddersfield will beat them to it.

The Magpies have little faith in signing anyone, let alone a player they have to compete against a relegation rival for.
