Newcastle fans on Twitter aren’t holding out hope for Rafa Silva swoop

Newcastle fans have been given news of a potential transfer today, although just as quickly as they were given that hope they swiftly had it taken away. Whilst speaking on Portuguese radio show Bola Branca Rafa Silva’s agent claimed that Newcastle are after the player, although the 19-goal winger has a release clause of 60 million euros.
#NUFC are interested in signing Benfica winger Rafa Silva. Silva’s agent, Antonio Araujo, is quoted saying; “They (Newcastle) are one of those interested. Whatever happens, will happen.” Silva is currently protected by a €60m release clause. [Bola Branca] pic.twitter.com/qoXIzYGs7B

The left-wing is something of a problem area for Newcastle United. Both Christian Atsu and Jacob Murphy have failed to live up to the standards expected of them at St James’ Park, and bringing in a new wide-man to feature on the left and add end product will be high on Rafa Benitez’s list. However, with the 25-year-old having a release clause equivalent to around £51.3 million it’ll be a tough deal to do.
The chances are, if Rafa Silva does leave Benfica this season then he won’t command the full price that his release clause includes. Newcastle will have their work cut out to get him on the cheap but it’s certainly doable. A bid in the region of around £20 million wouldn’t be ludicrous, but given this is Newcastle United we’re talking about, we can expect a low-ball offer and no deal to go through, which is exactly what the Geordies are predicting.

Ah, if only it was a €6m release clause…
…we still wouldn’t pay it.

Can’t wait to read these all summer & us actually sign Danny Welbeck on pay as you play

We will offer £5m.. Gets rejected. End of negotiations.

Why even put this up. Never happen in a million years. Maybe if his buy out clause was £6m

That rules us out then

He should be safe enough then

He’s an absolute speed demon

Rules us out straight away

That's a no, then.

The Geordies are desperate to make get some decent summer business done in the next few months, but it looks like they have little faith in Rafa Silva being one of those signed.
