Florian Lejeune went under the radar last season when it came to assessing the best Premier League purchases. The Frenchman was brought in by Rafa Benitez to great effect, partnering up with Jamaal Lascelles as the Magpies finished 10th in the league. However, he’s started this season in the treatment room, and after he made his footballing return in U23 action, the fans are buzzing.

It looks like it will be just a matter of time until the French defender is back amongst the senior squad and Rafa will be delighted to have the 27-year-old back. So far this season both Federico Fernandez and Fabian Schar have shone at the heart of the Geordies’ defence, but if they can add Lejeune back into the mix then they’ll be covered defensively, and will hopefully just add some more attacking flair in January.
At the age of 27, most Premier League footballers would be facing at least six or seven months on the sidelines having ruptured their anterior cruciate ligament, but now Lejeune. The Frenchman’s miraculous recovery from the debilitating injury has taken him just over four months, and his early return will serve as a massive boost to the supporters who are delighted to have him almost back ready and in contention to start.

The Geordies are delighted to see their French defender is almost back and they’ll just hope he can rediscover his form from last season when he is picked.
