Newcastle fans on Twitter desperate to see Jamie Sterry in the first team

Over the summer a lot of Newcastle United supporters were left disappointed when funds weren’t made available and the club failed to bring in cover at full-back. Typically, DeAndre Yedlin and Javier Manquillo then suffered injuries and the fans have been desperate to see young Jamie Sterry given his chance. Fans can read some of Sterry’s comments on the Newcastle website.

The young full-back claimed he was disappointed to have been left out of Newcastle’s matchday squad against Cardiff City and he looks to have proved a point with his performance against Sunderland’s U23 side when he helped towards the 5-0 win for The Magpies in the Premier League 2. Now, it looks like Rafa Benitez made a mistake by not including him in the squad for the Cardiff clash.

When Javier Manquillo was subbed at halftime with an injury the fans would all have been left frustrated that Sterry wasn’t on the bench. Instead, Benitez had to rely on Isaac Hayden to fill in at right-back and after just 21 minutes of action Harden had received his marching orders for a nasty challenge that gave the referee no choice but to brandish the red card. The fans, though, are of the belief that if Sterry was called upon they would have finished the match with the full 11.
