Mike Dean is probably one of the most hated men in the Premier League for a lot of fans. The extravagant match official is often the centre of attention, and it’s not a secret that he loves making himself the centre of attention. Ahead of the weekend, Newcastle fans have found out that Dean will be refereeing their clash with Brighton, and they’re not happy.

Newcastle fans can rest easy knowing that they have Premier League football to look forward to next season, however, it’s not all going to be fun between now and the end of the season, as Rafa Benitez could be managing his last three Newcastle games and will want to win them. The first of those three clashes is against Brighton on Saturday, and the last thing he needs is Dean to ruin it.
With a win this weekend, the Magpies could really put Chris Hughton’s Brighton under the cosh as relegation is becoming a real threat for the Seagulls. Mike Dean will want to make himself the star of this one, though, especially considering it’s a televised game. History doesn’t favour the Geordies either here, as Dean’s two games officiating Newcastle have seen them pick up just one point out of six with both a red card and a penalty decision going against the St James Park faithful.
