Newcastle fans on Twitter have no optimism after 4-0 friendly thumping

Last night Newcastle played Braga in a pre-season friendly match in Portugal. The Magpies were thumped 4-0 by their Portuguese opponents and a lot of fans are starting to lose hope in the season already. After the game, Rafa Benitez spoke to the media and it’s clear that he’s gutted at the lacking of backing he’s received as the season draws ever closer.

It’s not hard to understand that Mike Ashley is a plague on Newcastle United. His financial backing, or lack of it, at the club has starved The Magpies of going on to fulfil their potential as a top club over the last few years. After winning the Championship before securing a 10th placed Premier League finish in the last two seasons, you’d have thought it would be a good time to make a statement and sign some players, however, that hasn’t happened.

We’re now reaching a pivotal moment in the club’s history. If Mike Ashley either sells up or decides to properly invest and back Rafa Benitez then the club could seriously move up and start challenging for a spot in the top eight. Although if they carry on the way they’re going with protests against Ashley and boycotting of buying club merchandise then the club will suffer and Ashley will tighten his stranglehold.

Just from a handful of tweets, it’s clear to see that the fans are destroyed by the ongoings at the club and will be desperate for some sort of solution.
