Newcastle fans on Twitter left distraught after tough loss to Spurs

Newcastle had a sense of deja vu yesterday when they hosted Tottenham in the Premier League in a  repeat of last season’s Premier League opener. The Magpies lost 2-1, with Jan Vertonghen putting the Lillywhites ahead before Joselu equalised, only for Dele Alli to compound the Geordies to a defeat that they didn’t deserve.

The fans can take a lot of positives from the game yesterday. Everything went right for them other than the result and it looks like just a matter of time before they get their first win of the season if they can continue to put in performances like they did yesterday. So many players put in performances worthy of a win and Rafa Benitez will be wondering how he didn’t come away with at least a point.

Matt Ritchie and Kenedy were two of the best players on the pitch at St James Park and kept things ticking over, providing options from the wing. Ritchie provided the champagne moment of the match for the Magpies with his ball for Joselu’s goal whilst Kenedy should have scored after being found through on goal and in space. For most Newcastle fans, the aim will be to keep things the same but with a better touch in front of goal.
