Newcastle hosted Tottenham today in the Premier League and with a lot of potential new signings eligible to make their home debuts, it was one of the older faces that has lit up St James Park. Joselu cancelled out Jan Vertonghen’s opener after just 11 minutes with a superb inch-perfect ball from Matt Ritchie.

Ritchie had been linked with a move away from the Northeast as Stoke City were rumoured to be interested in the Scottish winger, however, after watching him plant a cross onto the head of goal-shy Joselu, there’s not a single Magpie who is disappointed that Ritchie decided to turn down the big money contract Stoke were offering and stay put at St James Park.
It’s unlikely that Joselu will be starting in the coming weeks and the only reason he’s been trusted today is because of the fact that new signings, Salomon Rondon and Yoshinori Muto haven’t had a chance to get up to speed with Rafa Benitez’s tactics. However, when the new men do get a chance in the first team, Ritchie will be licking his lips at the prospect of having some other forwards to provide service for as he aims to show the Newcastle fans why they should be grateful that he stayed.

Just from these tweets, it’s clear that the fans are delighted with Ritchie and will be keen to see more of his wing-wizardry further into the season.
