Newcastle fans on Twitter weren’t happy with Hayden yesterday

Newcastle United will feel aggrieved to have come away from South Wales with just a point considering they missed a late penalty that would have certainly guaranteed all three points, however, when you factor in Isaac Hayden’s red card, taking a clean sheet and a point away from The Cardiff City Stadium is a good result.

There was a lot of irony in Isaac Hayden’s dismissal yesterday. Javier Manquillo started the game at right-back and after getting booked after half an hour it looked like Rafa Benitez would be bringing the Spaniard off at half-time to stop him getting sent off, although after he suffered an injury in stoppage time it meant that Hayden would definitely be getting some minutes.

Hayden didn’t last long, though, and after just 21 minutes of him being on the pitch he saw red for a dangerous lunging challenge through the back of Josh Murphy which gave the referee no choice. Some Newcastle fans didn’t think the red card was fair, although on reflection they’ll realise that it was more down to the stupidity of Hayden as opposed to the referee as to why they had to play with ten men.
