Newcastle fans on Twitter would do anything for Rafa extension - Newcastle United

Newcastle fans are loving the way that Rafa Benitez continues to work wonders on a strict budget and would do anything for the Spaniard to be offered a new deal. He has once again got the Magpies battling in mid-table and after yesterday’s 3-1 win over Southampton and Cardiff’s defeat today they’re mathematically safe once again.

The Geordies have been waiting for a long time to have a manager in charge of the club who they can really get behind. Before Benitez, the fans were left with the likes of Alan Pardew, John Carver and Steve McLaren, and in comparison to that trio, Benitez is like a God amongst men. The problem is that Rafa’s deal at St James Park is up this summer, and there’s little to suggest that an extension is near.

If Mike Ashley allows Benitez to walk away from St James Park this summer when his deal is up then he really is as incompetent as he’s painted to be. The Sports Direct owner is viewed as a pig-headed selfish monster in the Northeast, and for the most part, he’s done little to dispel that interpretation. If he can turn it around and get a new deal on the table for Benitez with promises of spending then it would help his image, but the chances of that happening are slim.

The Geordies would do absolutely anything to tie Rafa down to a new deal and will be desperate for the Spaniard to be at St James Park in August.
