For nearly every Newcastle fan out there, signing a striker is one of their key priorities this summer, however, they need to sign the right striker. The club has been linked to a number of frontmen, but these rumours in The Chronicle linking them with a move for Chelsea’s Tammy Abraham haven’t gone down too well.

Rafa Benitez has made signing a striker to replace the departing Aleksandar Mitrovic one of his top priorities and the club has been linked with a lot of frontmen this summer. Alassane Plea, Salomon Rondon, Danny Ings and Jonathan Kodjia would all be good options who the fans could get on board with but Abraham is not. The 20-year-old Chelsea striker spent last season on-loan at Swansea and he only managed to find the net five times in 31 outings.
Abraham was relegated with Swansea last season and will have returned to his parent club feeling like he should have done more to help The Swans avoid the drop, especially seeing as he only scored one goal between mid-October and the end of the season. There’s no doubt that the young forward will find his feet somewhere and go on to be a prolific goalscorer but for now, he’s one striker that the Magpies don’t want at St James Park.

It seems clear that there aren’t many strikers the fans wouldn’t take, but Abraham is one them.
