A lot of Newcastle fans had themselves believing that their ongoing deal for Miguel Almiron was dead in the water. However, it seems that the Magpies bid of £16 million is the highest that has been lodged for the Paraguayan, although Atlanta United are holding out for £20 million, according to The Northern Echo.
Newcastle do not want to pay more than £16m for the 24-year-old, and Mike Ashley is refusing to enter into a bidding war by raising his initial offer. #NUFC
(I hate to say it, hate it, but no one else has bid more than that for Almiron as far as we know…)

Whilst the usual response from the Magpies would be to go to town on Mike Ashley for haggling over £4 million, a lot of them are slightly more understanding over the situation on this one. The 24-year-old is unproven in Europe, and whilst he looks like having a bright future, it’s a move that could out to be a sour one if Almiron comes in for a record fee and flops, despite his brilliance across the pond.
The Geordies expect to see Almiron be sold by Atlanta United this transfer window, and whilst they’re currently the highest bidders, the fans have been given fresh hopes of recruiting the playmaker. Whatever happens, the fans will just be desperate to see Rafa Benitez get his man, even if it does take them to the last day and sees them break their record transfer fee, that was set way back in 2006.
You can read the Geordies’ thoughts on the Almiron deal here:
Seems to me like we're just a few performance related payments away from the deal being done. If we pay £16m and he's a big success, a few mil more should be easy as he'll certainly retain and probably exceed that value if performing in the PL.

Atlanta are playing hard ball, No way he is worth what they want from him, He is only proven in MLS. look at the history of failed MLS players.
£20,000,000 With performance specific add-ons could be a good cut down the middle.

Plus with Atlanta signing Gonzalo Martinez, they now have four players over their salary cap. MLS only allows three. They have to offload someone and it's either going to be Barco or Almiron…

Is his reluctance to go over £16m because the FCB is determined not to break our transfer record ffs. Just get it done man!

Ffs no one has heard of him!! I for one am not surprised we won’t pay 25m for him

I starting to feel like this might be a thing again

It’s a fair bid tbh. Almiron is clearly above MLS level, but that’s his body of work. You can’t say he’s proven himself against the wirld’s best.

Reckon he knows that aswell and thats why he wont meet their price

The Magpies are desperate to get Almiron over the line, but they don’t want to spend over the odds on an unproven player from America either.Like what the TT have on offer? Sign up for more notifications!
