As you can imagine, Newcastle fans will be quite pleased with their point on the road yesterday. The Geordies looked up against it for a time with both Bournemouth and Mike Dean doing their utmost to keep them out, yet they battled to a 2-2 draw and had Salomon Rondon and Matt Ritchie to thank, and the fans have been calling for the former to stay.

At a glance, Rondon looks to be your typical #9. A big burly centre-forward, good in the air with solid hold-up play, and whilst he does tick all of those boxes, he has so much more to his game than that. The Venezuelan striker has proven in the Premier League, for both West Brom and Newcastle, that he’s an out and out goalscorer, and his strike yesterday was an incredibly well-taken pin-point free-kick.
It’s beginning to look more and more likely that Newcastle are in the mix for a midtable spot as opposed to being in the thick of a relegation battle, and with Rondon bagging nine of the Magpies 31 Premier League goals it looks like they have the West Brom loanee to thank. When the summer comes around, though, those fans will be desperate to make Rondon a permanent addition and will have no qualms with letting Dwight Gayle go in the other direction to make it happen.

The Geordies would do anything to see Rondon sign a permanent long term contract at St James Park and if he keeps scoring the way he is then Mike Ashley will have to fork out on the frontman.
