Newcastle fans take to Twitter to laud incredible Ayoze Perez after crucial relegation battle

Newcastle fans often come down hard on Ayoze Perez. The Spaniard has been guilty in the past of spurning huge chances when the pressure’s on, so for the Magpies to see him perform yesterday was refreshing. The Spanish forward shone alongside new boy Miguel Almiron and he even grabbed a goal for his troubles in a 2-0 win over Huddersfield.

The win at St James Park compounded more misery on the visitors and it now looks like the Terriers have absolutely no chance of survival, although to be fair it did look like that a couple of months ago. The Geordies were helped towards their win when Tommy Smith was sent off for the visitors after 20 minutes, and then goals from Salomon Rondon and Perez either side of half-time gave the hosts the win.

That Perez goal in the second half may not have proved to be crucial in the end but it provided the Geordies with a cushion that meant the fans could relax. It was the former CD Tenerife star’s fourth Premier League strike of the season and after last season’s tally of eight strikes, he’ll be desperate to add to his goal against the Terriers with a couple more in the coming games against Burnley and West Ham.

The Geordies couldn’t get enough of their Spanish maestro yesterday and will hope to see more from Perez whilst he’s in this kind of form.
