Newcastle United is a happier place after the last week or so of action. The Magpies have finally broken their transfer record and were also victorious against Manchester City in what was an amazing week for them, however, they’re still unsure where things stand on Rafa Benitez’s contract, despite this update from The Mirror on the situation.
With Mike Ashley willing to compromise by offering Rafa a three-year deal with lucrative bonuses and a promise of more signings in the summer, he has given the #nufc manager six weeks to make a decision on his future. https://t.co/Ocgiad6NwO

At the moment, Rafa Benitez’s contract is set to expire in just six months time. However, the impasse that Ashley and Benitez came to over the contract situation was over signings. The Spaniard was refusing to sign a new deal until he was delivered the players he wanted whilst Ashley was refusing to sign players until Rafa signed the contract, yet that should be that now Aliron has been signed.
Unfortunately, it’s not that simple. Rafa Benitez is a smart man and he doesn’t want to put pen to paper until he has assurances that Almiron wasn’t a one-off. The ex-Liverpool man wants guarantees that his side will be going back in for more players over the summer and future windows, however, things are closer now than they have ever been to a new deal for the gaffer, and the Magpies are desperate for three more years of Rafa.

I hope he reads all of the small print.

I worry about ultimatums like this

Must be true as it’s in the mirror
Being a man of honour then Rafa is well within his rights to have the promises in writing. Publish these as they are hollow breakable promises if history is the judge. Couldn’t trust Ashley yo save his kids from harm let alone deliver a budget

Should get MA to trf the budget into Rafa’s account first.

6 weeks. Don't even know which leauge we will be in at that stage. Doubt that

All boils down to trust and I’m pretty sure that was lost a long time ago.

History will repeat itself here unfortunately.

The Magpies aren’t sure where things go from here, although they’re all desperate to have a few more years under Benitez.
